My role was to research and understand current features and functionality in competitive products in the industry. In addition, I conducted user research and interviews to identify current user flows and pain points to enhance the future state product.
MARKET RESEARCH
The market research for this product was unique as we were tasked with both combining functionality of two existing systems as well as modernizing the functionality and usability of the new application.
I utilized reports and metrics from Gartner and attended a Gartner specialist call to review top products in the time and attendance space to understand current trends.
USER RESEARCH
Primary Interviews
I developed several user personas which included end users reporting time, HR operations specialists focused on reporting and managers who were primarily concerned with approvals and team scheduling. We interviewed users from each of these personas and within different business units.
I developed customer journey maps for each of our personas and validated them in user testing sessions with white-board exercises as well as paper prototypes. Users were able to provide feedback in one on one meetings where we rapidly updated the interface. This approach gave me quick insights into features and application layouts that I was able to turn into prototypes and eventually designs for our development team.

Amazon Web Services was our backend platform for this project in order to provide high usage and high transaction performance across the globe. I provided site maps and information architecture diagrams to build out the various backend databases and necessary services.
Unfortunately as part of the acquisition of the company, this project lost it's funding and never made it into the hands of our users. We were able to build out the real application in our AWS environment which proved to be a great learning opportunity nonetheless.
